iTrain Launches Real Application Clusters (RAC) Courses and Services
May 2006
iTrain is pleased to announce the launch of its premium RAC services, and is now taking bookings for scheduled and bespoke courses.
iTrain's courses will both demystify and offer practical hands-on training in Oracle's much misunderstood Real Application Clusters (RAC) Technology. Everyone has heard of Oracle's Grid technology by now, and Oracle Real Application Clusters is a key enabling technology for Oracle Enterprise Grid Computing. However it seems to have been the reality for many Oracle sites that cracking the Da Vinci code has been more likely than getting RAC working! However, this needn't be the case...
What is Oracle RAC?
Oracle RAC was introduced with Oracle 9i in 2001 as the successor to Oracle Parallel Server (OPS), with the premise of allowing multiple database instances to access the same database storage simultaneously.
It's all about reducing costs through reduced administration, and enabling a more agile, adaptive business system.

What are the Benefits of Oracle RAC?
Oracle RAC arguably increases fault tolerance, security, enables load balancing, and offers increased scalability. As all nodes access the same database, the failure of an instance will not mean total access to the database is lost.
Enabling Oracle RAC means enabling a cluster of cheap database servers. You can then easily extend, or in Oracle-speak 'scale-out', rather than 'scale-up' - essentially just plugging in another server when additional processing power is needed, as well as re-deploying excess capacity where it is needed.
iTrain Oracle RAC
Here at iTrain we have decided that demystification of Oracle RAC is long overdue; this most inaccessible of Oracle technologies has long been the holy grail of Oracle DBA knowledge - a skill in great demand and an oft discussed and contentious area with Oracle technologists.
At iTrain you will explore RAC to enable you to understand its benefits and via integrated hands-on labs see for yourself what it can offer.
Peeling back the layers of Oracle RAC, iTrain's course gives you exactly what is needed to appreciate its worth. As independent specialists, sharing key tips and tricks, we will allow you to objectively analyse the product. Each attendee will use their own Oracle RAC Release 2 Cluster on Linux, ensuring they come away with a solid understanding of the concepts behind the multiple configuration options, and knowledge of the practical hands-on techniques needed to utilise this Oracle implementation.
